- Have you always wanted to help with maintenance of the Appalachian Trail but wondered what is involved?
- Have you helped the club out with trail maintenance and would like to know more about the role of the volunteer trail maintainer?
- Have you attended a trail maintenance session previously, but wish to refresh your skills and knowledge?
Here is a chance to learn from and work with an Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) Technical Trail Specialist and instructor while helping to improve a Maryland A.T. section that is maintained by the Mountain Club of Maryland. No previous experience is needed. You only need a desire to give back to the trails that you love. The skills you learn during the session will be useful both on the AT and on your favorite local trails in Patapsco State Park and other parks in the area.
Our Traveling Trainer will be Greg Ritson. Greg who is a resident of Pennsylvania, and who joined the ATC team in late April as a Technical Trail Specialist. Greg has led trail crews in Pennsylvania, Washington, and Nevada over the last several years with the Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps, Student Conservation Association, Northwest Trail Association, and the Nevada Conservation Corps and is excited to work with partners and volunteers along the AT from Georgia through Pennsylvania.
Greg is scheduled to work with MCm volunteers on Sunday May 28th. At present we plan to work on specific sections of the AT near the Raven Rock Road area and Warner Hollow Road. More details will provided when you sign up. The signup link for the essential trail workshop on May 28th will be live shortly, and you can sign up at ATC Project Details (appalachiantrail.org). Also, please notify MCM’s coordinator Jack Spitznagle at kd4iz@frawg.org to let him know you are signed up, or to ask any questions you may have.
