Per the Maryland Natural Resources newsletter:
The Breeding Bird Atlas of Maryland and the District of Columbia is a five-year project documenting the distribution and abundance of our local breeding bird populations, from turkeys to ducks to sparrows. This information is used to manage habitat and sustain healthy ecosystems.
If you find a nest—whether it’s in the backyard or the backwoods—you can contribute to the project! Visit the department’s Breeding Bird Atlas website to learn how to get involved or to explore the data.
