This totally flat area is perfect for a short hike on a hot day. After spraying ourselves with bug spray we set out on the Black Marsh trail, by the time we reached the observation platform we all stopped and resprayed ourselves… maybe not such a perfect area on a hot day. However once we left the Marsh trail things got better. We hiked the rest of the trails before stopping to eat lunch at a small secluded beach overlooking the Chesapeake Bay. After returning to our cars most of us drove to the lower parking lot and walked past picnicking families and small children playing in the water. Then out on the Crystal Pier to check on the fishermen before going to the visitors center to learn more of the area’s history. Every hike doesn’t have to be challenging some are just fun. We will do it again OUT OF BUG SEASON.
