MCM Volunteers Building Tent Pads at Kennedy Shelter – More Work Needed

From October 4 through 7, several MCM members worked with an ATC trail crew to build tend pads at our Alec Kennedy shelter near Boiling Springs, PA. In the words of the trail crew supervisor, “Tent Pads are like onions–you have to peel them a layer at a time.” That’s an appropriate statement, since the work requires removing layers of leaves, duff, black dirt–and LOT of rocks – to reach the layer of clay that becomes the base of the tent pads. At the end of day 4, three tent pads were completed and two more were in progress. The crew will be working next week (October 13 and 14) with the goal of finishing these two pads and working on a trail to connect the pads to the shelter–there is still a lot of work to be done. Anyone who is willing to volunteer to assist can email me at trailsaunders@gmail.com.
