Note on the MCM Listserv and a Request

Fellow Hikers,

As with any Club or Group, change is inevitable.  And so it is that we have a change amongst our movers and shakers, and a request to all of you.

Ed Warner will be stepping down as Listserv coordinator, but will continue as the Hiker High Points editor.  The Listserv, which includes each of our email addresses, allows for a confidential but effective method to send out information to all members as I am doing now.  It is what helps keep us connected but is often overlooked for the importance that it is.  Ed has managed the Listserv for the Club for over 5 years through the transition to the Google Groups, and has done an outstanding job of determining who the new members are, and then adding them onto the Listserv on a regular basis.  We thank Ed for his meticulous and dedicated work.

And while Ed departs, we are pleased to welcome Diane Rogers who will be stepping into the role that Ed is vacating as Listserv coordinator.  We look forward to having Diane on the team.

Speaking of the Listserv, Ed, Diane, Debbie Coble, and Steve Kempler have been hard at work updating it, removing old inactive addresses, and updating current member’s addresses.  To help ensure that you are getting information from the Club for those who are current members, and not spamming those who are departing, we will be “cleaning up” the Listserv on a more continuous cycle.

To this end, and in order to maintain the most up-to-date mailing list of current members, please renew your membership in a timely fashion each year.

Why?

Members who do not renew within 30 days of their membership expiration date will be removed from the Club listserv.  If, after 30 days you do renew, you will be added back on the Listserv of course, but there might be a stretch where you are not getting news from the Club if your membership lapses, and of course you will not be able to access the website.

So, when you get your:

    “Hi XX/XY, just a friendly reminder that your membership with Mountain Club of Maryland is set to expire on: mmm dd, yyyy; If you would like to continue your membership, please renew in a timely fashion”;

……………please do.

Thanks, and Happy Hiking,

John Barrett
