This is a hike that includes some hills, a waterfall, views of the Little Gunpowder River and at least one stream crossing. Trail could be muddy or icy. Hiking poles recommended.
Hike upstream through woods along Big Gunpowder Falls to Stockdale Trail (BLUE) hiking along the upper ridge (flat after slight hill climb at first, this is a loop hike. Wear hiking boots and bring poles in case muddy conditions.
Length: 15 miles; Elevation gain: approximately 3,700 ft. Steep, rocky climb up Little Devil’s Staircase Trail to Hogback Overlook and along the AT and Thorton River Trail in the North District of Shenandoah National Park.
