This hike of 10-11 miles will start from the Upper Parking Lot in Gambrills State Park and use a combination of trails in Gambrills and the Frederick Municipal Forest. Please indicate whether you plan to carpool or meet at the trailhead.
We will hike approximately 7 miles at a moderate pace (2.4 mph) on the less traveled westside trails of Catoctin Mountain Park. The approximate elevation gain is 900 ft. In and out hike along wooded trails some along the falls and some on Jesse’s trail. We will leave from Harford Rd, cross Belair Rd and go a short distance toward Jerusalem Mills. Hiking poles recommended. Few very minor creek crossings but may be muddy in spots. Rocky areas along parts of the trail.
From Belair Road, we start along the Gunpowder looping east north of the river, then turn west along the river under Belair Road, and north through the wooded hills above the river with interesting mix of terrain.
