An out and back hike of 12 miles going south from Wolfsville Road (MD-17) to Annapolis Rocks on the Appalachian Trail. Total elevation gain is 700′ with the longest climb of 500′ over 2.5 miles. Very rocky in places, no significant stream crossings. Pace averages 2.5 MPH.
Pass thru the tunnel and take a scenic hike along the Big Gunpowder Falls and surrounding hills (taking blue to orange trails). One minor stream crossing. Lunch next to the creek. Creek crossing optional. Can be muddy in places. Hiking poles recommended. This could be considered an easy to moderate hike.
