We will be meandering over the many trails in McKeldin. Nice water views and good, but not long hills. Less than 1000 feet elevation. Hiking pace: 2.0 - 2.5 MPH. Lunch at McKeldin Rapids. Dress warm!
We'll be hiking on ridge lines, by the river and streams making figure eights up and down the trails. The views are great this time of year. A few 10+ feet stream crossings and about 1000 ft elevation. The hiking pace will be 2.0-2.5 mph.
Starting at Bunker Hill parking lot we will head upstream towards the Prettyboy Dam. This loop hike in Patapsco Valley State Park will use trail in the Hilton area including Santee Branch, Buzzard Rocks and Grist Mill Trails. Several moderate stream crossings (consider bringing hiking poles for the crossings), estimated total ascent of 900 feet.
This is the first of a perimeter circuit hike series in Patapsco Valley State Park. There are numerous hills and four stream crossings. The hiking pace will be 2-2.5 mph.
Hike 11 miles visiting Cunningham Falls, Hog Rock, Blue Ridge and Thurmont Vista, Wolf and Chimney Rocks. The elevation gain is 3000'. Pace average 2.5 - 3. Please indicate “Carpool” or “Trailhead” when registering.
